It is a natural product obtained from several species of the acacia tree, solutions of gum Arabic have been used as adhesive or bonding agents since Antiquity. Today, aqueous solutions with a high concentration of gum Arabic are used as a binding medium in classic gouaches and watercolors. It is also an excellent binder for oil and dry pastels.
